State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Mercy Neighborhood Ministries’ STNA Training program is approved by the Ohio Department of Health and will prepare you to take the state exam to be listed on the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry so you can work in a long-term care facility or hospital.

Criteria to be an STNA Candidate:

There are three pathways to be considered as a candidate for our STNA Training Program:

  • Graduate of HCAT or similar Council on Aging approved home care aide training program of at least 60 hours, currently working as a home care aide.


  • At least 2 years of previous experience working as a home care aide or nurse aide or in a health care setting, pass pre-test with 80% or higher, currently working in any job


  • Referred by an employer partner or social services case manager. Must be 19 year of age or older, in stable housing for a minimum of 1 year, currently employed for a minimum of 6 months, and able to pass minimum scores on KeyTrain reading, math, and critical thinking skills and ACT Talent

Days & Times: Sessions are 6 or 8 weeks long. Six week sessions are held three days per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00-4:00. Eight week sessions are held two days per week on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00-4:00.

Tuition Information: The STNA program fee is $800. Scholarships are available based on household income and family size. A minimum out of pocket fee of $300 is required for all students. Some students may be eligible for funding through community partners or the City of Cincinnati. In this case, the out of pocket fee will be reimbursed upon completion of the program.
